About
Avail is a highly influential melodic hardcore band that formed in 1987 in Reston, Virginia, before relocating to Richmond in 1990. They became a cornerstone of the Richmond punk scene and are widely respected for their high-energy live performances and socially conscious, anthemic songwriting. Led by vocalist Tim Barry and guitarist Joe Banks, the band released several landmark albums on labels like Lookout! Records and Fat Wreck Chords, including 'Satiate', 'Dixie', and 'Over the James'. Known for their unique addition of a 'cheerleader' (Beau Beau) to their live show, Avail influenced a generation of punk and midwestern-style emo bands. After an indefinite hiatus starting in 2007, the band officially reunited in 2019 for a series of sold-out shows and continues to perform intermittently.
