About
Chase was an American jazz rock band formed in 1970 by lead trumpet player Bill Chase. The group was known for its unique lineup featuring four trumpet players and no saxophones or trombones, creating a distinctive sound that blended jazz and rock elements. Their debut album, "Chase," released in April 1971, included the hit single "Get It On," which peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band received a Best New Artist Grammy Award nomination in 1971. Despite lineup changes and a shift towards a more jazz-focused style, Chase continued to perform and record until 1974. On August 9, 1974, while en route to a performance in Jackson County, Minnesota, Bill Chase and three other band members tragically died in a plane crash, leading to the band's disbandment.
