They are known for exploring themes of queer kinship, community-building, and the intersection of biological and digital technologies. Self is a member of the drag collective Chez Deep, a frequent collaborator with Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst, and the founder of XOIR, an alternative vocal workshop focused on group singing and somatic awareness. Their musical output includes the albums 'Elation' (2015), 'Siblings' (2018), and 'respite ∞ levity for the nameless ghost in crisis' (2024).
