Damon Smith is an American free improvising bassist born on October 17, 1972, in Spokane, Washington. He began his musical journey in 1991, initially playing electric bass influenced by Mike Watt of fIREHOSE and The Minutemen. After discovering Peter Kowald's 'Duos: Europa,' Smith transitioned to double bass, focusing on free improvisation. He has collaborated with notable artists such as Cecil Taylor, Peter Brötzmann, and Fred Frith, and has been active in various free improvisation scenes across the United States, including Oakland, Houston, Boston, and currently St. Louis.
