Darnels
About
The Darnels (often referred to as The Darnells or Denny & the Darnells) were a significant early rock and roll and garage band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Formed around 1959, the group was led by lead guitarist Denny King and featured a lineup that at various times included Tom Fabre, Gary Lane, and Bruce Wells. They were a fixture of the local Milwaukee scene, notably performing at venues like the Spa on 5th & Wisconsin. The band recorded at the legendary Cuca Studios in Sauk City, Wisconsin, as well as for the California-based Tide label. Their sound was a blend of early vocal rock and roll and surf-influenced instrumentals, with notable tracks including 'Little Sheila,' 'Spooner,' and 'She's My Girlfriend.' The band spent time in Southern California in the early 1960s before returning to Milwaukee. They officially disbanded around 1964 when members moved on to other prominent local acts like The Cashmeres and the Mojo Men.
