About
The Florentine Opera Company, founded in 1933, is Wisconsin's oldest professional performing arts organization and the sixth-oldest opera company in the United States. It presents three to five staged productions per season, primarily from the standard operatic repertoire, at the Marcus Center in downtown Milwaukee. The company has premiered several new American operas, including the American premiere of Lowell Liebermann's 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' in 1999 and Robert Aldridge and Herschel Garfein's 'Elmer Gantry' in 2009.
