About
Funereal Presence is the solo project of Mattias Müller, better known by the pseudonym Bestial Devotion, who is also the drummer for the acclaimed black metal band Negative Plane. Founded in 2007 and originally hailing from Florida before relocating to New York, the project is known for its idiosyncratic and atmospheric take on black metal, often incorporating eccentric elements such as church organs, bells, and folk-inspired acoustic passages. Funereal Presence debuted with a self-titled EP in 2011, followed by the full-length 'The Archer Takes Aim' in 2014. The project achieved significant underground acclaim with the 2019 release 'Achatius,' which was praised for its complex songwriting and its unique blend of first-wave black metal influences with a progressive, 'chamber music' sensibility.
