Hue Blanc's Joyless Ones is a Wisconsin-based garage rock and "mutant rock" ensemble that emerged from Algoma in the early 2000s. Founded by Casey Buhr and featuring a revolving cast of members including Gus, Ted, and Josh, the group is celebrated for its singular, lo-fi aesthetic that combines gritty Midwestern sensibilities with elements of post-punk and psychedelic rock. The band gained underground notoriety with a string of influential releases on labels like Columbus Discount and Bancroft Records, including their 2004 7" 'Notoriety' and the 2007 LP 'Arriere-Garde'. After a period of relative hibernation, they returned in 2022 with a self-titled full-length album on the revived Bancroft imprint. Frequently associated with the Milwaukee underground scene, they are known for their raw, high-energy performances and a sound that defies easy categorization, often referred to by the idiosyncratic tag 'mutant rock'.
