Kawir is a pioneering Hellenic black metal band formed in Athens in 1993 by guitarist Therthonax. They are a cornerstone of the Greek underground scene, known for their unique fusion of aggressive black metal with ancient Greek folk melodies and traditional instrumentation like flutes and the kanonaki. Their lyrical themes focus exclusively on ancient Greek paganism, mythology, and theurgy, with some compositions even being utilized in modern Hellenic polytheistic religious ceremonies. Over three decades, they have released numerous influential albums such as 'Προς Κάβειρους' and 'Isotheos,' maintaining a reputation for raw, atmospheric, and culturally rooted metal.
