About
Mortiis is the long-running musical project of Håvard Ellefsen, a Norwegian musician and founding member of the black metal band Emperor. After leaving Emperor in 1992, Ellefsen pioneered the 'dungeon synth' genre, characterized by dark, atmospheric, and fantasy-themed synthesizer compositions. Throughout the 2000s, the project evolved into an industrial rock band before eventually returning to its ambient 'Era 1' roots in 2020. Mortiis is well-known for his iconic prosthetic mask and deep world-building within his music and lyrics.
