About
The Psychedelic Furs are an English rock band formed in London in 1977. Initially consisting of Richard Butler (vocals), Tim Butler (bass guitar), Duncan Kilburn (saxophone), Paul Wilson (drums), and Roger Morris (guitars), the band emerged from the UK's burgeoning punk scene. They initially used Martin Hannett as a producer, but their self-titled debut album from 1980 was eventually produced by Steve Lillywhite. The LP quickly established the band on radio and was a top 20 hit in the UK. The album also found success in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and Australia. The US version of the album was re-sequenced but failed to have as strong a commercial impact. By 1979, the lineup expanded to include John Ashton (guitar) and Vince Ely (drums). The band achieved international recognition with their 1986 single "Pretty in Pink," which was featured in the John Hughes film of the same name. After a hiatus following their 1992 tour, the Psychedelic Furs reunited in 2000 and have been active since, releasing their first studio album in nearly three decades, "Made of Rain," in 2020.
