Rum Revere
About
Rum Revere is the sample-based electronic solo project of Milwaukee musician Brock Gourlie, a veteran of the local scene best known as the longtime drummer for the band Scrimshaw. Launched in May 2020 as a pandemic-era creative outlet, Rum Revere specializes in a genre-bending 'weirdo-funk' aesthetic. Gourlie’s production process typically involves layering his own recorded drum snippets and funky loops with an eclectic array of found-sound samples, including dialogue from 'The Three Stooges' and 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles,' as well as unconventional mashups featuring artists like Enya. Utilizing hardware like the Roland SP-404SX and mobile apps like Koala, Rum Revere has released numerous collections such as 'Errhead,' 'What’s This?,' and the 'Rum Set' series. The project remains a consistent presence in the Milwaukee underground, with frequent live performances and DJ sets at venues like Cactus Club, Lion’s Tooth, and the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts.
