Soul Asylum
About
Soul Asylum is an influential American rock band formed in 1981 in Minneapolis. Originally known as Loud Fast Rules, the group became a staple of the 1980s midwestern college rock scene alongside peers like The Replacements and Hüsker Dü. They achieved massive mainstream success in the early 1990s with their triple-platinum album 'Grave Dancers Union' (1992), which featured the Grammy-winning hit 'Runaway Train.' Known for their high-energy live performances and fronted by founding member Dave Pirner, the band has maintained a consistent career spanning over four decades. Despite the tragic loss of founding bassist Karl Mueller in 2005, the band has continued to tour and release new material, including their thirteenth studio album, 'Slowly But Shirley,' in 2024.
