The Suffering is a death metal band formed in Chicago by a collective of veterans from the Midwestern extreme music scene. The group features guitarist Jeff Holmes (formerly of Chaos Rising and Mass Mutilation), bassist Jon Billman, drummer Scott Davidson, and vocalist Casey Loving (who replaced original singer Jared Roberts). Their sound blends traditional death metal with elements of hardcore and the 'murder metal' aesthetic popularized by regional legends like Macabre. They released their debut full-length album, 'The Experiment Has Failed', in 2023. The band is a prominent fixture in the regional underground and is slated to perform at the 2026 Milwaukee Metal Fest, further cementing their status in the Wisconsin and Illinois metal communities.
