THE DEVIL'S STAIRCASE

About

The Devil's Staircase is a Chicago-based progressive rock collective led by physics professors Luis Nasser and Tim McCaskey, both of whom are also members of the band Sonus Umbra. The group is an international collaboration featuring musicians from the United States, Mexico, and Sweden, including Aaron Geller, Mattias Olsson, Ramsés Luna, and Edgar Arrellín. Their music is conceptually driven by mathematical and scientific principles such as fractals, nonlinear dynamics, and cellular automata, though they distinguish their sound from the 'math rock' genre. The band released their self-titled debut album in 2020 and signed with the ProgRock.com's Essentials label in late 2023.
