The Ocean Blue
About
The Ocean Blue is an American indie pop band formed in 1986 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The original lineup, featuring David Schelzel, Bobby Mittan, Rob Minnig, and Steve Lau, signed with Sire Records while still in high school and achieved immediate success with their 1989 self-titled debut and the hit single 'Between Something and Nothing'. Their music is characterized by jangly guitars and atmospheric synthesizers, drawing heavy influence from British post-punk and college rock acts like The Smiths and Echo & the Bunnymen. Over several decades, the band has maintained a dedicated following, transitioning from major labels to the independent scene and co-founding the Minneapolis-based Korda Records. They remain active, frequently touring and releasing new material that continues their signature melodic dream-pop sound.
