Pleasantries
About
Pleasantries is an eclectic experimental rock and indie pop project formed by multi-instrumentalist and animator Andy Markantonatos around 2013 in the Chicago suburbs. The act is uniquely known for pairing complex musical compositions—featuring odd time signatures and math rock influences—with self-produced, surreal claymation and 3D animated music videos. The project is primarily a solo endeavor by Markantonatos, who often collaborates with musicians Campbell Markantonatos (bass) and Sam Ayers (guitar). Their music draws inspiration from progressive giants like King Crimson and Yes as well as the art-pop sensibilities of David Bowie, Talking Heads, and Jack Stauber. They have released several full-length albums including 'Pleasantries' (2017), 'Tiny Heart’s Core' (2020), and 'I Love This' (2021).
